The film is titled “Nepal: The Colours of Home” and it is a part of a campaign from the Lufthansa airlines that seeks to explore the themes of belonging and feeling at home.
The “#inspiredby HEIMWEH” promotional campaign of Lufthansa was produced by Berlin-based digital agency neulandherzer and explores the notion of belonging and how travel experiences can shape our identity.
Heimweh is a German term described in the video as – ‘home isn’t something we can expect from a place, but something we find within ourselves.’
The film portrays the colours of Nepal as Arpana Rayamajhi sets out to visit her past life and enjoy the moments in the countryside set against the backdrop of the Himalayas. Arpana recalls her moments and how she feels to be back in Nepal after years of living in the modern city of New York.
“Growing up in Nepal, I always longed for a place I didn’t know. Visiting now after living in the New York reminds me of how I’ve always seen myself somewhere between the modern and the ancient”, she recalls in the video.
The spectacular scenes from the Kathmandu Durbar Square in Nepali capital city and villages of Namche Bazaar add to the colour and vibrancy of the film.
“In January 2017, I made my way back home after the longest I have been away from home, 5 years. With Lufthansa we set out to make a short on the concept of #heimweh and explored Nepal like I have never before,” wrote the New York based jewellery designer on her Facebook page sharing the Lufthansa promo video.
She also shared this beautiful photo taken by Meredith Jenkins for the #heimweh campaign of Lufthansa airlines, which you can see towards the end of the video.
The film featuring Arpana Rayamajhi and her hometown Nepal has received an excellent press coverage both inside Nepal and in international Media. The Telegraph in the UK published the campaign story suggesting that the film will make you want to quit your job and move to the mountains of Nepal.
This short film is the second video as part of the campaign from Lufthansa. The first short movie released in October last year follows the story of the two brothers Kiyoshi and Satoru returning to Japan to explore their family’s origins.
I hope you enjoy watching the beauty of Nepal in the short film and importantly, I hope you take some time to think on some of the meaningful questions from the campaign – Where in the world do you feel at home? What makes you feel like you belong there?
