Beauty pageants happen so now and then in Nepal that it’s almost impossible to keep track of all of them. We have yet to get over aftermaths of Miss Nepal, the most popular Nepali beauty pageant gossips, likes, dislikes, interviews etc… and the list of these pageants continue to be added.
Miss Teen, beauty pageant has been there for a while and is mostly popular among college students. Again, don’t confuse it for Miss Teen Green 2011.
This year title award for Miss Teen 2011 – Brain and Beauty redefined was grabbed by Archana Panthi, who was successful in impressing the judges with her confident answers.
Prakriti Tiwari and Shweta Pokharel became 1st and 2nd runner up respectively. Organized by The Fashion Plus, the pageant had 34 young girls compete for the title at the Grand Finale of the event that took place at Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi last Friday (2nd of September).
Archana Panthi, who hails from Gulmi stole the show with her winning answer for the finale question “Poet laureate Laxmi Prasad Devkota wrote the poem ‘K chha thulo jagatma pasina bibek, Udeshya k linu udi chhunu chandra ek. What did Devkota mean by the verse?”
Her answer to help her grab the title was;
“I don’t really see myself in a position to be able to define Devkota’s work. However, if I were to explain the verse, then he means that the goal we achieve without any hard work does not have any value. Hard work bears sweet fruit. We must have aims but we should always try to attain them from our effort”.
Earlier in the pageant, the participants were asked “Where do you see yourself standing, 10 years from now, in Nepal?” whose answers led Archana Panthi, Rita Piya, Manisha Chhetri, Prakriti Tiwari, and Shweta Pokharel to the top 5 contestants.

Amidst all these beauty pageants, the only question that keeps striking my mind is – what is the outcome of these pageants?
Is this the only way to empower women, that everyone seems to follow the same beauty pageants route?
